Overview
Avid Calgary touring cyclist Peter LaGrandeur has organized a low cost and full
featured common adventure bicycle tour of the Loire Valley in France for late
spring of 2000. The focus of this truck-supported 550km riding trip will be the
chateaux, wineries, cuisine, art, churches, and culture of this historic
area south of Paris, long the historic home of French royalty.
Group size will be a total of sixteen to twenty participants.
The trip is presented in a package form that will include many features
to make it fun and easy to follow for participants.
Upon arrival in Paris at the Charles de Gaulle airport the
itinerary and transportation has been planned from there for the
entire two weeks.
Riding starts in Orleans, south of Paris and works its way west
to the city of Angers. The connections between Paris to Orleans and then
Angers back to Paris will be via the French passenger trains.
Participants on this trip bring their own bikes which will be transported
separately and directly between the airport to Orleans and then at the end of
the trip from Angers back to the airport by separate van transport.
Considering this is one of the most expensive areas of the world to visit,
the price on this cycle tour is outstanding. Especially so when
compared to the fees to join a commercial tour operator's guided trip.
This one will amount to much less than half of a typical big name operator's
package, yet with almost all the same features.
Costs are divided into three main categories: air fare, land
package, and out of pocket expenses.
Kick off your new millennium with a cycle tour of France's Loire Valley.
