Waterton Lake Kayak Tour 1998

August 22 - 23, Sat - Sun

Once again, we had another weekend of ideal weather. We started the day in plenty of time from the boat launch across from the Warden Station in Waterton townsite. With the site mostly to ourselves we took plenty of time to get organized and on our way.

There was a short period of headwinds until we were halfway down the lake, but this was taken in stride with our more sea worthy kayaks versus the open Canadian canoes we were used to using in past years. The fifteen kilometre distance from our launch point to the Glacier Visitor Centre went by quickly. The two tourist tour boats based in Waterton townsite passed us several times both days of our trip.

Upon arrival, we toured the area on foot including a hike through the forest beyond the end of the Lake. We spent the night at Goat Haunt hiker shelter behind the joint American/Canadian Visitor Center in Glacier National Park. No bears were seen this trip though we heard many stories of these bruins frequenting the area.
