Welcome to the Simpson Islands Paddling Page

At this point in time, the Simpson Islands are only a tentative destination, pending further investigation. There is no schedule or date set at this time for any excursion. How I heard about the suitability of the Simpson Islands as a sea kayak destination was by word of mouth from a fellow paddling enthusiast who saw the area written up in a canoe magazine.

Based on one of my previous Northwest Territories canoe trips, to Lac la Martre north west of Yellowknife, I know that there are lakes in this area of the world with white sandy beaches, clear water where the deep bottom can be seen from the surface, and plentiful large fish. Great Slave Lake is also a sailing destination and has been documented with articles in sailing magazines.

The likely itinerary would be to fly out of Yellowknife in a float plane with delivery to our destination somewhere in the Simpson Island group. An airplane pickup one or two weeks later would likely be the culmination of our expedition.

This would be a refreshingly different kayak tour, partly because it would be in a fresh water environment. STAY TUNED!
