Fay Hut Back Packing Tour 1998

October 10 -12
Thanks Giving Weekend

Fay Hut

Our trip began at the Marble Canyon parking lot in Kootenay National Park on Hwy 93 between Castle Junction and Radium. The trail through Prospector's Valley was relatively level, until it left Tokkum Creek and proceeded UP the unnamed creek at the 10.5 km mark. We made it to Fay Hut in a total of five hours including stopping times (13km). The hut was amid about two centimeters of snow. On the second day we explored the moraine field above between Fay Hut and the upper Neil Colgan hut. The snow got deeper the farther we went until it was about 20 cm deep near the toe of the ice fields.

There were no signs of bear at all throughout the entire trip, only a solitary moose foot print on the trail beside Tokkum Creek.

Upon return to Calgary a fine Thanksgiving turkey dinner with more than all the trimmings was put on by Patti and hosted by Guido.
